A government microbiologist using a
1/4 scale RC Cub to sample the air above Tampa, Florida. They are
studying pathogens that are attached to dust particles blown in
from African deserts. Once a week he climbs his radio controlled
Cub to an altitude of 1000 feet and collects an air sample.
Scientists say that on a typical spring or summer day in the Tampa
Bay area at least half the particles in the air originated in
Africa. They are interested in identifying microbes that could
potentially harm living things.
